HEINEKEN | THE PUB THAT REFUSED TO DIE

In Ireland, pubs are more than places to drink. They're the last shared spaces where communities come together. Between 2005 and 2025, over 2,100 Irish pubs closed their doors. In Kilteely, a village of just 214 people in County Limerick, that statistic had a name: Ahern's, the last local, put up for sale with no one to take it on.

Heineken turned one village's refusal to give up into a fame-making moment for the brand. By supporting 26 ordinary locals as they pooled €300,000 to buy and reopen their pub, the campaign became a feature documentary premiering at the Dublin International Film Festival — a brand act so rooted in cultural truth that it earned attention no media budget alone could buy.
